Flyfishing in coloured water
It pays to take a short time talking to the fishery owners and, more importantly watching other anglers fishing to give you clues to what methods to try.
Look for features, on small lakes fish are not always in the centre of the lake, there is little point in resting there if anglers can reach you. Look for small islands and deep edges.
In coloured water it has always been said that black is a good colour and this is still very true today particularly if the lure is fished slowly.
In coloured water the fish tend not to old too deep, I believe this is simply due to lack of light reaching the deeper water. A Cortland blue or clear intermediate lines were far more effective than faster sinkers despite the fact we were fishing over some deep water.
